Title: An Awesome Deal
Fandom: Johnny Test
Pairing: Gil/Johnny
Notes: For June Fic-a-Day. Set five years after the time period of the show.

"This is gonna be so awesome!" Johnny exclaimed as he bounded out of Susan and Mary's lab and through the house.

The girls were heading to college in less than a week, ready to take their first steps towards the day when the government might actually fund their projects instead of just showing up to beg for them once they were complete. In preparation for leaving they'd called Johnny in to offer him a deal.

"We've been thinking, Johnny," Mary had as soon as he entered the room. "We know that we can't both marry Gil."

"And it's always possible that there might be guys at the university who are almost as good as him," Susan continued for her. "It would be stupid for both of us to ignore them when we don't know who Gil likes more."

"Aaaaaaand, why are you telling me this?" Johnny had asked, craning his head around as he'd looked for any signs of a new invention they wanted to test out on him. Their continuing crush on Gil was just about the most boring subject in the world to him; he really hoped that one day they'd figure out that if he hadn't managed to remember they exist for longer than an afternoon at a time in eighteen years was basically a giant blinking neon sign reading Never Gonna Happen.

"We're glad you asked," Susan had said, smiling at him like she had him exactly where she wanted him. "You see, it occurred to us that we really have far too many inventions to bring them all with us, or keep them all in storage."

"So we thought we'd make you a deal; we'll leave you a few of our more... juvenile inventions, if you'll ask Gil which of us he likes more."

"Just don't tell dad!" they'd finished by chorusing together.

"I hope they leave the turbo time rewinder!" Johnny said now as he tore through the house. "The one I used was so cool, until it broke."

It was such a sunny day out that he didn't bother going to Gil's front door, betting that he would be inside. Instead he hopped up onto the fence connecting their yards, and sure enough there was Gil lounging around next to his pool. "Hey, Gil!"

Gil grinned and waved when he saw him. "Hey Johnny. You wanna use the pool?"

"Sure!" Johnny hopped the fence, not bothering to head back for swim trunks; he figured the shorts he was wearing would be fine. He plopped down onto the patio next to Gil's chair so he could tug off his shoes and shirt. The cement was hot enough to burn his bare legs. "I've gotta ask you something," he said, as he emptied out his pockets, storing loose cash and gum and random scraps of paper in one of his shoes.

Gil swung his legs off the lounge chair, sitting up and leaning towards Johnny with his elbows resting on his knees, giving him his full attention. "Shoot."

"Okay, so I know this is dumb. Really dumb," Johnny said, rolling his eyes. "Susan and Mary want to know which of them you like more."

Gil looked at him blankly. "Who?"

"Well, that wasn't really surprising," Johnny said to himself, and tried to think of a way to put the question that would get any kind of an answer. Sure, he could just flip a coin to pick one and it'd pretty much be true--Gil liked them the same amount, which was not at all, so saying either of them would be equally true--but he didn't trust them not to be spying on the conversation somehow. "Okay, uh, how about this? When you look over the fence at my house, do you ever see anybody there that you like?" If that one didn't work, he was gonna try just asking if Gil liked stars or the moon better, and yank an answer from that.

Gil blinked at Johnny, than surprised him by looking embarrassed and ducking his head to rub at the back of his neck. "Whoa, Johnny. All these years, I never thought you noticed. I totally didn't think you'd be the one to bring it up!"

"Wait, what?" Johnny asked. He did like one of the twins? Really? It went against everything Johnny knew was true in the world, just as much as if Eugene suddenly announced that he'd given up his crush on Susan.

"Yeah, I totally see someone over there I like," Gil said, resting his hands on Johnny's bare shoulders and giving him the smile that Mary and Susan had been swooning over for years. "You've always been a pretty awesome guy, Johnny."

Okay, yeah, the world had gone very, very weird at some point.

Johnny wondered how exactly the twins were going to take this as their answer.
