Aug. 12th, 2003 01:42 amI've recently realised that I have a tendency to have people sleep together in fics. Not sleep together as in have sex, but sleep together before their relationship actually starts/before they realise they have feelings for each other. Looking back through old notebooks I've realised I've been doing this for years, even though I somehow never noticed it before.
After thinking about it it's not that hard to understand. The sound of someone else in my room; whether they're coming into it, shifting in their sleep, or just breathing to loudly; is a sure way to wake me immediately from a sound sleep into a blind panic. Being able to sleep quietly with someone else in the room with me is pretty much the ultimate expression of trust I can show a person.
So, I guess it makes sense that this little personal foible would work it's way into characters I'm writing. My brain considers being able to sleep in another's presence to be a greater intimacy then sex in it's way, so it considers it a great way to show that two characters are really starting to fumble their way towards a relationship.
