Have all y'all seen the PostSecret blog? It's a project where people make their own postcards, with a secret that they've never told anyone on them, and send them anonymously to the site owner. Some are funny and some are optimistic, but the majority are a bit like a punch in the gut.

I'd say that this one and this one are the two that I... well, like is really not that right word, but they're the two that had the most affect on me.

My poor kitty. Something (probably the neighbor's cat, with whom he's had a long feud) tore a chunk out of his shoulder. So today I took him to the vet, and at first he seems interested in looking out the window at new places. Then he started crying. Then the panting started.

None of my cats have ever panted before (or at least I've never noticed it), so you can imagine how upsetting it was when all of a sudden his jaw locks open as wide as it gets, his tongue lolls out, and drool starts pouring out of his mouth as he struggles to breath. He kept this up (on and off) the rest of the drive, through the visit to the vet, all the way home, and then for another quarter of an hour after we got back. I never thought he'd get so panicked; the last time he went anywhere in a car (admittedly, this was several years ago) he was fine with it. I guess that this on top of the pain in his shoulder was too much for him and caused the panic attack.

Other than that, the wound's healing well (it's had a few days to start: all the vets around here stay closed on the weekend so this was the soonest he could get to one), although it's a bit infected. He just barely has a fever, he got an antibiotic shot, and some antibiotic drops to take at home. He'll probably never trust me again (or at least not for a few weeks), but I'd rather have him healthy and pissed off then cuddling up next to me while his shoulder oozes puss and slowly rots.
