Last night I had a bad migraine headache and couldn't find the ibuprofen anywhere so I finally toke a left-over pain pill the dentist prescribed (but not for me, for my mom after a root canal) a while back. It was supposed to cause drowsiness, but usually things that are supposed to effect how awake or sleepy I feel don't work on me so I didn't think anything of it. This was at about midnight.

By one-fourty-five or so I was absolutely dead on my feet so I finished off the message I was working on and staggered up to bed. I was so tired that I couldn't find the energy to change into my PJs and just stripped to my tee-shirt, and I couldn't keep my hands steady so I almost poked out my eyes taking out my contacts.

Once the lights were off and I was laying down, suddenly I couldn't really move. My hand, which rests on my pillow, can reach out enough to rub my eyes, but trying to move it into a different position leads to my arm flopping around like a hooked fish. When I want to roll over it feels like my body's been filled with sand, weighing it down and sliding around when I try moving.

However, despite all these things telling me that I was extremely tired, I could not get to sleep! I couldn't even get up enough to turn on the light to read a book or something to pass the time, all I could do was lie in the dark and try to keep my mind empty. I was prone like this for hours, the sun was coming up when my brain finally fell asleep and joined my body, which had clearly gone on without it.

Now (and for the past several hours) I'm up and about, and I'm absolutely exhausted. What should have by all rights have been a nice deep sleep ended up being the worst night's sleep I've had in a long long time. I'm never, ever, taking one of those damned things again; better to suffer the migraine the go through that.
