yuletide's starting up again for the year!
For everyone who doesn't know, Yuletide's a holiday fanfic exchange for rare fandoms. Holiday as in the stories are put up on Christmas morning as a gift, not as in you need to write the stories with a holiday theme.
I've taken part in it every year it's run, and I highly recommend it. It's a great chance to get stories for that book or movie or whatever that you walk away from desperately wanting to read some good fic for only to find that the fandom is non-existent. And the requests that the person assigned to you doesn't write get put up on the New Year's Resolution list after January first passes and authors are revealed. That list stays up until the next year's signups begin, so all that time there's a chance (especially high during the first month or so) that someone will be hit by a bunny for one of them and write you another story.
Last year they tried out making you write a Resolution story if you wanted to join for the first time, but since that didn't end up making any real difference in the number of people who dropped out of the challenge and needed to be replaced by a pinch hitter that requirement's been dropped this year. So, no needing to rush to write a story before the New Year's challenge ends!

Uh, just ignore that things like Harry Potter that aren't rare at all are in it. The first year the challenge accepted rare pairings in popular fandoms as well, but that ended up being too much of a mess for them to handle in future years so it's just obscure fandoms now.
