"You are not putting those lips on mine," Courtney said, covering Duncan's mouth with her hand the second he tried leaning in for a 'hello' kiss as soon as he found her at the Playas Des Losers.
"What the hell, Princess?" he asked, pulling back to glare at her. "That's how you say hello after a month?"
"I've been watching the show since I left, Duncan," she said, tossing her hair and stepping away from him. "I'm not letting someone who ate worms kiss me."
He gaped at her. Out of every stupid reason she could have come up with as an excuse from trying to keep her distance from him again, that was one he never even would have imagined. "That was weeks ago! I have brushed my teeth since then, Babe."
"Worms. In snail slime."
"You think you're grossed out by that? When I picked one to slurp down I thought it wasn't breathing, until it started squirming in my mouth."
She narrowed her eyes and wrinkled her nose at him. "Do you really think saying that's going to make me more likely to kiss you?"
"Nah," then grabbed her hands and quickly leaned in to kiss her before she could yank them away and cover her mouth again. "I'm saying if I could stand it, you can suck up and deal. Anyway, if you'd been there I know you'd have gobbled down the whole damn plate to win."
"'To win', Duncan. Not because you feel like being a pig with your... your worm mouth!"
She turned away from him, wiping at her mouth and grumbling under her breath about needing to brush her teeth, but Duncan just grinned, happy enough with her reaction. Courtney was nothing if not consistent in her reactions, and the fact that he wasn't keeling over in pain after stealing a kiss was all he needed to know she was glad to see him again too.
