Title: Inner Peace
Fandom: Kung-Fu Panda
Pairing: very vaguely Shifu/Po
Notes: For June fic-a-day
Shifu had known that he'd lost his inner peace the day that he'd lost his son, but it wasn't until the day he regained it that he truly recognized what else he had lost along side it. There had been joy within him once, but during his years of turmoil it had seemed so distant that he hadn't even noticed what he was missing, as far from him as summer was from the heart of winter.
He thought that it should have been difficult for him to relearn the ways of happiness after so long going without, but he found that it came easily as he continued to train Po. There was the fierce joy which came from his art, long buried under discipline and routine until the utter ridiculousness of squabbling over food as a training method broke through it. There was the warmth and pride that came from watching his student's skills developing at an astonishing pace, which had been long suppressed after how he had ruined Tai Lung. There was the quiet and tranquil happiness of peaceful nights spent in, of boundless affection and a bowl of noodles prepared just for him.
He wondered, at times, if Master Oogway had seen even this coming.
