This morning I was thinking about the potential Final Fantasy Big Bang people have been talking about lately, and I realized that, even though the challenge isn't starting until the fall, since I'm usually a short story writer I really should start noting down any potentially novella-length FF plot bunnies now so I won't risk my brain refusing to come up with any ideas that can be stretched to more than 5k words then.

Right off that bat there are two story ideas I've had bouncing around in the back of my head for ages that could work; a slightly bittersweet but mostly happy FFIX story where Dagger sneaks off with Tantalus right after the final dungeon so she can heal up her heart with fun adventures and acting before she heads home to settle into her duty once and for all, and a much darker story set after the normal ending of FFX-2 that I've been wanting to write ever since the first time I beat it.

The FFX-2 story is the one I'd much rather write, assuming that I don't come up with something I like better in the months before I actually need to choose. But, I don't want to start another lengthy FFX fic until I finish the one I've already started.

So right now I'm making a deal with myself! If I finish Drawn Toward Unity before the Big Bang sign-up period I will allow myself to write my screwed up Isaaru/Yuna almost psychological horror story! Or any other FFXverse story I think up in the meantime.

If I don't manage it I'll smack myself upside the head because, seriously, I've been gearing myself up to get back to it since uploading it to AO3, and it's only like four real chapters plus a couple of interlude pieces and maybe an epilogue away from ending so it's ridiculous that it's taken me this long to get around to finishing it. Especially when the very next chapter is the one where they're finally start considering themselves to be a couple (well, when they finally know for sure that they're on the same wavelength about that; neither really considers themselves to be romantically available to anyone else where the story is now anyway).

Starting on it needs to wait until I'm done with my fics for help_haiti and New Game+, but after that I can really start focusing on it. ...And hopefully by then I'll remember what's supposed to happen in the other interlude or two Wakka was supposed to get before the end. *facepalms* My memory of the main story is still fine! Even after a few years I have no problem remembering what needs to go in the last few real chapters. But Wakka has an important part in the ending that will work better with a little more insight into his POV.

In a blatant display of counting my chickens before they're hatched, I already want to write some short sequel stories about what Unity-verse Cid and Lulu are up to around the time of FFX-2. Because lord knows there's no way Lulu would let Cid's Zanarkand Funland plans get off the ground.
