person4Holy cow is it annoying to try poking around in a new fandom and find out that it's one where ficcers have somehow started to refer to any pairing at all as "slash". Especially when the only pairing I'm interested in for it is a het pairing that is very unpopular to start with.
Searching for fic becomes a lot more difficult when you assume you can skip straight over any slash-focused groups only to find nothing that seems to be het- or any-ol'-thing-focused. Luckily I figured out the problem eventually! But it still makes shifting through writers going "Okay, when they say that they write slash do they mean actual slash so digging through their journal looking for fic would be a waste of time, or might I find what I'm looking for there?"
The sad thing is that I'm usually such a huge multi-shipper that it wouldn't make any difference, it's just bad luck that this is one of the only fandoms ever where I'm completely uninterested in any pairings but one.
