Jul. 25th, 2010 03:28 amMy god, I hate the new Google Image Search page format so much. So much.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if you were just looking at pretty pictures (though I think I'd get overwhelmed even then), but searching for a reference picture for something in a seemingly endless page of pictures is not "quicker and easier" and I have no idea why they think it would be. And it gets even worse when you reach the end of the page and instead of going onto another page to see more pictures it loads up another thousand on that same page.
If you spot a picture that's almost but not quite what you're looking for you'd better make damned sure to open it up in another tab or window, because if you can't find anything better and it isn't right near the top of the page it'll take forever to find it again, no just making a quick mental note of which page it's on then only needing to pick it out of twenty images.
To be fair they do let you switch back to basic view, but they put the option way down at the bottom of the page of 1000 images so if you don't know it's there (which I didn't; I looked for a way to change it back in the search settings page and when there was nothing there I thought it couldn't be done) you'll end up going through the huge page at least once before you reach it and once you're there the "show more images" option is way more noticeable. And it doesn't stick, so you need to tell it to switch back all the time.
I feel so, so, sorry for all the people out there who are still on dial-up the first time they try to do an image search without realizing it's changed.
