Nov. 11th, 2011 04:07 pmI'm gonna try to deal with my 'Gah,
yuletide, start already (or even just give a day that you're pretty sure it won't start before) so I can stop staying up too late F5ing my friends list just in case' twitchiness by writing my Dear Writer a little early, since I've gotten my requests all sorted out and I'm sure none of them are so large that they'll be weeded out during nominations. As always, you can go right ahead and ignore this if you're not my assigned writer, but if you want to peek at what I'm requesting feel free.
Dear Writer,
Thank you so much in advance for writing me a present! I hope that my requests didn't leave you staring at your assignment in horror, but if so please let me stress that gen is always welcome with me so if the pairings I picked don't work for you, you don't need to feel stressed about trying to make it work. Also don't worry if none of the plot ideas in the optional details work for you; they're just there to try and give you a place to start if you're the type of person who freezes up if they don't get something to work with in the optional details (I am myself, so if you are I know how that it *g*) not because that's what I have my heart set on seeing in the story I get. As long as the characters I asked for are interacting in some (preferably at least vaguely friendly) way I'm happy, even if your plot bunnies drag you off in a totally different direction.
This year I've requested one slash pairing (if you're writing them as pairings instead of gen, natch), one femslash, and either of the het pairings will work for the Dark Agenda challenge, so hopefully I've got something available for whatever you're interested in writing this year, and I always try to provide online sorces for all the canons I request so even if whatever you were specifically matched on ended up being something that's trickier for you than you expected maybe one of the others will be a better match! And since I know the timing this year means that there's super little time to check out a new canon if that's the case, this year I'm arranging the canons in this letter by the amount of time it takes to familiarize yourself with them, shortest to longest.

China, IL
Characters: Steve Smith/Pony Merks
Okay, I admit it, I totally ship them, not in an 'OMG true love forever!' type of way, but more like 'OMG, I want them to snark at each other, and fuck, and them to go into work just the way its always been forever!'. Between her immediate proposal to him when she found out premarital sex had been banned and his knowing right where the bedroom window of her new house was when he's so not the type of person who'd help somebody move I half-expected that one day it'd be revealed that they've been hooking up offscreen the whole time until the season finale ruined that idea, and I really liked the dynamic that gave them in my head, where having a sexual relationship probably hasn't changed the way they interact with each other at all; there aren't many fictional characters you can say that about! But if shipping them doesn't work for you, ever since I watched the T.A. Interview Professor Brother's short I've really wanted to see something about how Pony got the job when she has enough sense that you'd think an interview like that would send her running. Or just more of the normal day-to-day weirdness that goes on there!
If you end up checking out more of my livejournal you'll see a couple of entries down that it really was Pony's quick proposal and the different ways you could read it that got me interested in the pairing; was it just a joke, or did she just pick him because he was the first man she saw, or were they already sleeping together off-screen and she didn't want it to end, or did she pick him because if she had to get married to have sex he was the only guy she liked/trusted enough to put herself in that position with, or did she know he'd be achieving tenure soon and wanted in on that for a divorce settlement, or... Obviously I put a lot more thought into that than the writers did. *g* But even if their dynamic is just exactly what we see on the screen it's still my favorite in the show and I'd be happy with anything that has the two of them snarkily bouncing off each other.
China, IL is a six-episode cartoon totaling... 70 min, I believe? You can find all the episodes here. But if you'd like to do some extra credit it's based off two online series, Professor Brothers and (less importantly since neither of the characters I'm requesting are in it) Baby Cakes and there's also a short pilot, all of which can be found on Neely's website. The T.A. interview short I mentioned in my request is here.

Lilo and Stitch
Characters: Nani Pelekai/Cobra Bubbles
Totally bizarre pairing, totally based on the snapshots of him hanging around with the family in the ending credits of the movie. Shipped or not shipped, I'd just really like to see something about how they reach the point where Nani is comfortable having him hanging around with them during family time.
I... don't really think there's much to say outside of what's in the request. If you pick this one I do hope that you keep in mind that Cobra's a decent guy who did what he thought was best for Lilo in the situation that was going on during the movie; I know there are some people who just can't forgive him for trying to break up their family.
Lilo and Stitch is 85 minutes long and you can find it here. There're also sequels but I've never seen them and a TV series that I have seen a good bit of but I've never seen and episode with Cobra Bubbles, so you can feel free to ignore those if you'd like.

Back to the Future
Characters: Emmett "Doc" Brown/Marty McFly
Okay, this is a bit of a weird one: I ship Doc/Marty, but only 1950s Doc/Marty. I would prefer gen adventures if you write 1980s Doc. It's that scene at the start of the third movie, where they're dozing comfortably in the living room together, that suddenly made the ship hit me, right up until there I'd gone through the whole series not particularly shipping anyone. So if you could come up with an excuse to make that happen, it'd be great! Maybe all the rain makes the ink in Marty's letter smear before he reads where the time machine's been hidden so he ends up stuck in the past? Maybe it could just be a missing scene thing in either the first movie or the start of the third? Or if you go the gen route I'm always up for anything exploring how weird it must be for Marty to get used to the new universe where his family's suddenly happy and successful. Or just more adventures through time!
Sorry if you got this one expecting gen adventure funtime and I just punched you in the childhood. *g* Really, I'd never considered shipping them at all until I read a ship manifesto for them right before rewatching the movie series with it in mind, but once I did I found that I still didn't ship Marty/the Doc as he's always known him, but the Doc's past self? Suddenly, yes.
The arranging things by running time thing I'm doing breaks down a bit here; I'm not sure whether the three Back to the Future movie combined are shorter than all of Adventure Time so far or not, but oh well here we go:
Back to the Future
Back to the Future II
Back to the Future III
I know that there's also a cartoon series and the new video games, but I can barely remember the one and have never played the other so don't worry any about canon clashing with either of them.

Adventure Time
Characters: Marceline/Princess Bubblegum
What I'd especially like for these two is backstory; what did get Marceline on Bubblegum's blacklist, what was their relationship like before then (doesn't need to be romantic, though that would be nice!). Which isn't to say that speculation about their future (whether things get better between them or worse) would be unwanted! Alternately I'd love something exploring the after-the-end nature of their world, and adventure in ruins that we can recognize as some known landmark or fic set in Marceline's childhood when there might still have been a few more remnants of our civilization hanging around. Or just a girls only adventure while Finn and Jake are off doing something else and can't help out with the disaster of the day!
This request came as a surprise to me. *g* I'd been planning to offer to write them but hadn't been thinking of requesting them, but then as the post where everyone listed what they planned to nominate went on and nobody mentioned it for pages and pages I ended up getting so freaked out about 'Ahhh, why hasn't anyone mentioned it yet?!' that it became obvious to be I was invested enough to want them as my (until then undetermined) fourth request.
Really, the thing I most want from this is the two of them being as awesome as they are in canon. Especially Bubblegum! (It'd be hard not to have Marceline be awesome, after all, but depressingly easy for some people to ignore the badassed scientist under all the pink). And the Adventure Time world itself is really fascinating to me so if you like worldbuilding feel free to run with that even if the characters don't show up so much (or are absent all together, though if they are I'd prefer the story doesn't revolve around an OC; some just showing up without being the major focus is fine).
Adventure Time is in its third season, and you can find episodes here.
When it comes to general preferences I prefer humor and other light things over angst and darkness; if a dark idea is all you can come up with I won't get upset but I'd prefer there at least be a hopeful ending even if it isn't outright happy. I don't appreciate character or pairing bashing, so even if the characters/pairings I requested clash with another please don't bash whoever I didn't ask for.
I like female characters being awesome. I like character just having dumb conversations that let them bounce off each other for awhile. When it comes to sex I'm fine with it, but would prefer no play with any body fluids aside from blood or menses and I'd really rather there be no non-con. I'd prefer there be no major character death, but my mom's death (which is the reason I want it avoided) is getting far enough away that it's no longer a really huge thing for me if you're inspired by an idea where it's unavoidable.
Most of all I just want you to write a story you can have fun with instead of getting too stressed out over trying to cram every detail I mention into it! I'm really very easy to make happy; you're writing characters that I love in one of the four canons that I decided on as my number one picks this year out of the five thousand small fandoms I love, so just by virtue of that you're already well on your way towards giving me a Christmas gift that'll have be bouncing in my seat with glee come Christmas morning.
