Dec. 31st, 2004 10:08 pmWell, I've put this off about as long as I can since authors are revealed tomorrow morning.
yuletide Recs
First off, the story which I recieved, which is really really great: Not Just Any Body a bodyswapping Venture Brothers fic that fits the tone of the show perfectly. I love Venture Brothers, it's my favorite thing on TV right now, so the fact that my Santa decided to pick that fandom just makes me bounce on my seat.
tread of nimble feet (Wild Adaptor): I've never read the manga, I've just seen some of the pretty pictures from it in the past and decided to read the fic on a whim. The characters could be completely OOC for all I know, but since I don't I can happily accept the fact that it's just really good.
This Is About Lilly (Veronica Mars): A quick, sad, read. Follows Veronica through the series thus far, remembering Lilly and trying to come to terms with everything that's happened.
And o'er his heart a shadow (Road to El Dorado): Post-movie, Tulio and Miguel have everything they could possibly want, but still aren't content.
Missed Opportunities (The Ring): Becca finally gets out of the mental institution, but is still haunted by the memories of what she saw the night that Katie died.
Buttercup's Baby (The Princess Bride): Humperdinck continues to hunt Buttercup, Westley, and a baby pulled from the sea.
Loving Mere Folly (The Last Unicorn): Many many years after the end of the book (or movie, if you prefer) an ancient Schmendrick stumbled into the Unicorn's forest.
Mourning Sun (Romeo + Juliet, Baz Luhrman movie version): There're three great bookverse Romeo and Juliet fics that have been recced all over the place, which makes me sad for this one since it's just as good but I'd bet I'm not the only person who almost missed it completely since I just looked in the book section. Benvolio, post-movie, remembering Romeo and Mercutio (or, rather, remembering Romeo and trying to avoid thinking too hard about Mercutio).
Indulging Rimmer (Red Dwarf): A brief glimpse into an early incident on the ship. Rimmer catches another holovirus.
Anodyne (Royal Tenenbaums): I almost forgot this one! It's just great. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. The movie showed us how Richie's feelings for Margot progressed from childhood to adulthood. This fic does the same for Margot.
Seriously, even if none of these fandoms appeals to you, try and find some time to go through the archives and see if there are any that do. I've yet to read everything that I want to, but of what I have read I haven't found a single bad fic yet. The only ones that I disliked at all were just in styles that I don't like, so it was totally a problem on my end rather then the stories. And there're fandoms on the list that you can't find anywhere, so if you've ever run all over the place trying to find fics for something only to come up with nothing it's worth a shot.

Date: 2005-01-01 12:31 am (UTC)Anyway, I'm glad I made you happy. *grins* I tried to keep mostly to fics that I either hadn't seen recced or had only seen get one or two, since I know how much it sucks to be overlooked while other stories are in every rec list you see.
