Word= apology
“My brother, Harry? You’re dating my brother” Ron was bright red, and looked like he would explode at any second.
“Look, Ron, I’m sorry. It just sorta... happened. And it’s going to keep on happening. I wanted you to be the first to know, but if you have a problem with it I just want you to know I’m not breaking it off. Not for something like that.”
“Oh God, no, Harry I didn’t mean anything like that. It’s just-- God, Percy?! I don’t mind that you like blokes, and I don’t even mind you dating my brother, but couldn’t it at least have been Fred? Or... or, Bill! Bill’s a fine chap, and not a bad looker. Why don’t you try dating Bill?”
“Ron, Bill’s almost old enough to be my father. And besides, I don’t want Bill. I want Percy.”
Ron’s face scrunched up, but he didn’t look so angry anymore, just very confused. “Alright, why him? I mean, he’s prudish, stuffy, boring Percy.”
“Ron, he’s more then just that. He’s really smart, and he’s funny when he opens up, and kind, and gentle, and he sees me as I am instead of as who everyone want me to be.” A goofy smile slowly grew on Harry’s face, making Ron jump slightly and study him intently. “And, when he smiles at me, I feel like I’m safe, and warm, and loved. Not because I’m the “Boy Who Lived” or the saviour of the wizarding world or any crap like that, just because I’m Harry, and he loves me.”
Ron racked a hand through his hair and met Harry’s eyes for the first time since they’d started talking. “Well...” he said, “It sounds like you really love him, and if that’s the case then I reckon I should just get used to it, though I can’t promise it’ll be easy. And, I’m sorry I reacted so badly, it just came as a real shock. You and Perce, who’d have ever imagined that happening?” Then he laughed and grinned. “I’m giving you fair warning though mate, you hurt my big brother and you’ll have all us Weasley’s out for your hide. We protect our own, even when it’s Percy.”
Harry nodded solomnly, though his eyes glinted with restrained laughter. “Right, no hurting the man I love. It’ll be tough, but I think I might just be able to manage that.”
Ron grinned and slung an arm over Harry’s shoulder, glancing up toward the house where Percy was just visible watching them through the window. “Alright then. Welcome to the family, Harry.”

Date: 2003-06-19 05:37 am (UTC)Because it's exactly the reaction I'd imagine Ron having to this sort of situation. The whole confusion at the fact that Harry liked Percy out of all of his brothers and this line: "Bill’s a fine chap, and not a bad looker. Why don’t you try dating Bill?” - it's perfect. And Ron's being really cool about it too, which is so nice having read fics recently where Ron is pretty nasty (boo! Ron's nice...).
*tackle glomps* They all rock! And this one has got me grinning like mad too. ^-^
