Zelos blamed it on the snow.
He had spent almost his entire life running from winter, going far to the south every time there was even a rumor that snow might fall in Meltokio. He might have managed to avoid it all the rest of his life if Lloyd hadn't dragged their group to Flanoir, the city where winter never ended.
If he hadn't come, his dreams wouldn't have been haunted by memories of blood staining snow, of the person he'd trusted most in the world telling him he shouldn't exist.
Zelos blamed the snow for driving him out of his room when his nightmares wouldn't let him get back to sleep, going to see if Lloyd wanted to take a walk.
If nothing else, even if he couldn't get any sleep that night, maybe he'd at least be able to decide whether or not to leave the letter he'd written begging his friend's forgiveness.
