Fandom: Final Fantasy VIII
Pairing: Squall/Rinoa
Notes: Something I wrote for fic-a-day then never got to post since the hotel wouldn't read my disc. Also, calling he of a thousand belts' outfit "functional" makes me giggle.
"You can't wear your dress uniform!" Rinoa exclaimed when Squall exited his room. She rolled her eyes, but otherwise mostly just seemed amused.
"You said to dress up," Squall replied. "I thought this would be better than my regular uniform."
"You shouldn't be wearing a uniform at all, you... you dork." She firmly placed her hands on his shoulders, spun him around, and pushed him back toward his door. "We're going to a nice restaurant for dinner, not a mission briefing! You should wear something nice, not... militaryish."
He stopped at the door, not even bothering to pretend that her continued shoving had any chance of moving him, and looked over his shoulder at her. "My usual clothing was chosen for functionality, not to look nice."
She blinked at him. "So? I'm not asking you to change into that. Just a nice shirt and pants, Squall."
"If you don't want me to wear a uniform, that's the only other option."
Rinoa gaped at him, and realized that perhaps before she made a date with Squall to go someplace fancy, she should have actually made sure to ask him if he had anything to wear on it.
