Jan. 1st, 2008 01:43 pmYay, Yuletide authors have been revealed! The story I got for Yuletide was Missing, presumed-- by
blinkytreefrog, an awesome Piper/Trickster story if there're any other Flash fans around! I've been a fan of the pairing for years, ever since a brief moment of confusion when I heard about Piper's old boyfriend James (Trickster's "real" name is also James) and thought that DC was being awesome in the second before I realized my mistake, and I'm so glad that I thought to ask for the pairing this year! Now I feel a little silly about linking to a bunch of stuff on their own LJ community when I thought my Santa might need more options, hee.
As for what I wrote, for my original assignment I wrote Chance Meetings, a Star Ocean Second Story fic with the pairing Ashton/Opera. Since that's a really cracky pairing (it's impossible for them to even meet in the game; if you get one you can never recruit the other) I also hunted down and read through one of the other canons they asked for so that if they didn't like the weird pairing they'd have something totally normal too. And that ended up being the Yotsuba&! ficlet Yotsuba and Cats
Then I picked up a pinch hit, which ended up freaking me out a little *grin*. I picked it up for an RPG that I hadn't played in years, but there was another request (minus its character details) in it that I thought I could fall back on if I couldn't get through a replay in time. Then it turned out that the fallback request was the result of a glitch in the system, and I had a brief, panicy, "Oh no, I can't play lesiurely, must rush through!" spell, until the idea for the story I ended up writing came to me and let me breath more easily. That one was Science, Fate, and Revenge, a Rei/Momo Breath of Fire III story.
Then comes that weirdest fic I've ever written that I mentioned the other day. I noticed the request for anything Commercial-based on the Pinch Hit list, but didn't try getting it even though I thought it looked really interesting because I thought it'd be impossible for me to come up for any ideas for it. But it stewed around in my brain for awhile, and then I noticed it again on the Yuletide Madness list, and then I looked up a bunch of old Cookie Crisp and McDonald's commercials on Youtube and the end result was the noirish Cereal Serial, which has the pairing of Cookie Crook/Hamburglar and I still don't know what the heck was going through my mind.
When the list of people that didn't have any stories in the archive got down to close to the end, I really wanted to do something for one of those people, and eventually noticed that one of them asked for femslash with Beatrix from Kill Bill, and then I remembered that I always wanted to see something pairing her with O-Ren since I always thought that she seemed the most emotional about that death (after Bill, of course). I cursed myself for deciding not to rewatch the first movie just the night before, but settled down with Wikipedia to remind me of details I'd forgotten and wrote Training Days. It was the toughest of the stories to get down; I probably would have written a lot more Yuletide Madness stories if I hadn't been banging away at it up until an hour or so before, but I'm glad that I managed to get it done in time!
Then the very last little ficlet I wrote for the TV series Chuck right before the end was Chuck vs. The Promise of Paperwork, which... really needs a better title. It's just a quick thing that I already had in mind ever since the last episode that aired, a Casey/Chuck fic where I try to let them avoid something that the show is loudly hinting is going to happen in the near future.
And that's it for now! Happy new year everybody!
